Again, that is just my opinion and it is not much of one, due to me not reading past OOTP. I do love the fact that the books came to life and it was a valiant effort, that I appreciate beyond words. I do not and can not discuss HP with any of my friends, due to all of them being sport enthusiasts. It is not a bad thing, but I wish I would have expressed my love for the HP universe earlier, so I could have met some people, that shared the same interest in HP as myself. This is my first time posting here and my first time expressing my love for HP, openly. I know that sounds weird being an adult and all, but if you knew whom I am surrounded, you would understand. Anyways, back to the reason I am here. Do any of you think, that I should start reading where I left off or are the movies sufficient for the time being, until I get the funds to purchase the books? I am quarantined for another 3 weeks and have absolutely nothing to do once I am done with work (programmer). - If I do get some responses, I appreciate your time and I apologize for the SUPER long rant and dive into my life.

I'm a 23 year old guy in the US. We're syro-malabar catholics. My mother has always been super religious but things have been taken to a whole new level recently. Ever since Corona started and I also had an accident to my hand recently causing some nerve damage, my mother has taken up prayer intensely. Before, we used to do a 20 min daily prayer and go to holy mass on saturdays (sometimes) and sundays (always). Now, we do the holy mass (~45 mins if online/2 hrs if we go to church) and an extended daily prayer (30 mins) every day. One of the few things I used to enjoy with my family was watching malayalam movies. Now, she has grown a distaste for them (she doesn't like anything with romance, any type of fight scenes, chali comedy). One of my social outlets was mallu family gatherings that we used to have every two weeks or so as well as going over to family friend's houses. Now since church takes up so much time, we don't go to that anymore. This is all especially frustrating because most of my friends in the US have much more liberal lives.

They go to church once a week at most and somehow their parents are understanding of that. Now I know it may sound silly to you that I'm saying these when I could easily move out especially since I'm in the US. But I owe my parents a lot. They worked 80 hour weeks to put me through college and haven't spend any time enjoying their life, devoting all their attention and efforts to me. Almost their entire lives after I've been born has been devoted to me. So if I move out, that'd be the ultimate betrayal. If I bring this up with them and tell them how depressed I am, they will say what a total "ahankari" and ungrateful person I am. My dad came from an extremely poor background. He literally walked 6 kms to school, worked on the family farm since 4am when he was young before and after going to school, had only two pairs of clothes etc. So their logic is that I have so much, so I have no right to complain. On top of that, I have early stages of psoriatic arthritis, which is arthritis that spreads through so many body joints.

---Simply seeking advice. I hope I am posting in the right place and that I am not bothering any of you with my post--- I am 30 years old and have read most of the books. I stopped reading as a sophomore in high-school, after I read OOTP. The movies had just started coming out (I chose to watch rather than read), due to being pre-occupied with football, baseball and general teenager stuff, so I never had the pleasure to finish the series. I really want to pickup where I left off, but I currently do not have the funds to do so, due to contracting COVID and I do not want to read them online. If I was to read them, it would have to be the 'old fashioned' method. There is nothing, that can replace the smell and excitement (hope that does not sound weird) of a hard cover HP book! I really did enjoy the 1st and 2nd movie, due to the darkish, warm, almost genuine aura they emitted. The 3rd movie was 'okay', but after that, the movies turned cringe, for me anyways. They went too 'light' and that authentic feeling went down the toilet.

I am going nuts and need something to take my mind off all of this. Thank you and be safe out there, friends!
