Apologies, I know this isn't exactly the focus of this sub, but I've been tearing my hair out for a couple years now trying to find this thing, and I've never found a "looking for obscure hardware" sub. It was a dark grey/blue grey/black (I don't remember precisely) curvey little thing that fit nicely in the closed hand. Could have been a sci-fi gun prop. It was itself wireless, although there was a wired (I want to say serial connection, but maybe gameport) dock it would set it when you weren't using it. I'm 95% sure it was infrared, because I remember it had a little glassy front bit like TV remotes do. It had two buttons on the "stick" part, but also a very awkward 4-button directional pad on top.
