Hathaway is the pompous, sophisticated dame, while Wilson is the slobbier one that needs special training in order to become classy. in "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, " Steve Martin and Michael Caine were able to bring life to their roles, and they had a cleverly written script to go off of. an example of a joke in this movie is as follows: Hathaway and Rebel meet on the train, and strike a conversation. at a point, Wilson stops listening and starts playing a game on her phone. that's the joke. just because a character does an action, that doesn't automatically make it funny. in order to work, it needs a setup and conclusion, two things that "The Hustle" is completely devoid of. we understand the simplest aspects of the already formulaic plot, and are left waiting for laughs that are never going to come. added into the mix is the geeky tech nerd whose two purposes are being the clutz and romantic lead. he joins the two leading ladies in their constant stream of failing physical gags and attempted setups.

SETH COLTER WALLS 'Perle Noire' Dec. ;; available until Dec. 18. In 2019, I was deeply impressed by a performance at the Metropolitan Museum of Art of this oratorio by the composer and multi-instrumentalist Tyshawn Sorey, inspired by the life and songs of Josephine Baker, with text by Claudia Rankine. The piece — conceived with the soprano Julia Bullock — ruminates over Baker's legacy, turning what is usually thought of as upbeat repertory into a mournful, sensual ritual. Mr. Sorey and Ms. Bullock are joined by members of the International Contemporary Ensemble for this streamed version presented by Da Camera of Houston. SETH COLTER WALLS Image Credit... Nan Melville Tenet Dec. 12 at 5 p. 13 at 7 p. Vocal music has been the genre perhaps most sadly affected by the pandemic — group singing, especially, since it poses a perfect storm of risks. So it is good for the soul to see even glimmers of a revival, as in this superb early-music group's holiday program at Caramoor, featuring five singers — including Jolle Greenleaf, Tenet's artistic director — and lute.

both of them plan a big scheme to buy out his app and make him bankrupt, but after Penny spends more time with him, she has a change of heart, and chooses instead to forge over her own money for his personal troubles. i don't think it would be surprising to find out that this guy has a few tricks up his own sleeve. i wish i had more to talk about here, but this movie gave me nothing. it's empty, full of vacuous air, free to be taken advantage of. "The Hustle" isn't good, and it isn't terrible. it's not much of anything, really. if there's any indication here for upcoming female con-artist movies, i would take it as a step by step guide on what not to do while making such a movie. i would also suggest a different joke book to choose from.

Add to all that a pair of works by Tyshawn Sorey: the glacial, mesmerizing "Everything Changes, Nothing Changes" (2018) and "For Conrad Tao" (2020) — which, despite its title, is written not for piano but for violin, another instrument Mr. Tao grew up playing. JOSHUA BARONE Philharmonia Orchestra Dec. 4 at 2:30 p. ;; available indefinitely. If there's a silver lining in the saturated programming of a composer's anniversary year, it's the opportunity to hear more than just the greatest hits. That's the case with the Philharmonia Orchestra of London, which is celebrating Beethoven's 250th birthday with a broadcast of "The Creatures of Prometheus, " an 1801 ballet score more often heard in fragments than its entirety. Here is the whole thing, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen and featuring a new script by Gerard McBurney, animation by Hillary Leben and narration by Stephen Fry. JOSHUA BARONE Aristo Sham Dec. 9 at 7:30 p. and Dec. 12 at 2 p. Pandemic travel restrictions are preventing this young pianist from coming to New York for a scheduled livestream recital presented by Young Concert Artists.

I watched this in college and still think of it today, all these years later. I loved this production so much! I found it sucked me in to the story, I loved to watch their chemistry together and oh boy is Armand Assante handsome!!! Back then I didn't mind that it may have been slightly cheesy to some people. I just loved to watch their romance play out. I have grown up to like all kinds of movies, but this one will always be close to my heart. It was the tv event of my whole first college year. Yes, we didn't have as many options to watch back then, but I say it is worth the money to rent. Hope you enjoy it too.

Oscar-nominated actress Berenice Bejo ("The Artist") is set to headline " Josephine and Napoleon, " an English-language period drama series created by British showrunner Tony Saint ("Das Boot").
